In the last 50 years, the UK has seen a large reduction in the number of people regularly going to church.
The UK church membership had decreased to 10% of the population and If current trends continue, membership will fall to 8.4% of the population by 2025 I want to get the bottom of why this is and find my own predictions for the future if the church. In order to know the future we must interview the generation of the future. *After Atheist interviewee says most of his generation are atheists* I'd agree with this statement, that being said we have managed to find regular church goer Steven. An interesting insight, but I'm still not satisfied, to get to the bottom of this we'll have to go to the house of god himself. Matt's been a vicar for 18 years. I asked with whether during this time he'd seen a change in the number of people going to church. Optimistic but it's clear where the end began. Those who were born after 1946 and before 1964 is where the decrease started and was passed along to the next generation, then in turn to generation X. Inbetween the two is the 2nd wave of boomers, my dad Mark is part of this generation. In between the songs in my documentaries and during the interviews I thought it felt dry and awkward. So I put in two instrumentals provided by imovie: Farewell and Newborn.
They are simple and not too dynamic, making them good for background music. I've made them barely audible as not to distract the audience but to fill in the silence. Start with montage of footage talking about reduction of church. (25s) - Done

On the 3rd of January I recorded some extra footage of the church. This included pans up and down of different parts as well as stationary shots. This will be included in a mini montage before the church interviews. As well as this I recorded shots of me talking to camera inside and outside the church, giving some infomation on what I'm finding out.
I did have trouble with sound interference, hopefully it is something I can fix in editing. Over the winter holidays I filmed a number of interviews and footage to use in my documentary. Around the 18th I went up the St. Andrews Church in Congresbury. They were doing a carol service and I managed to get an interview with: some church kids, the church youth leader Caz and the vicar Matt.
My findings suggest that despite the decrease in church goers over the past few years (to which they agreed) there has been an increase recently. The interviews go into more detail on this and has lead to figure out what my conclusion will be. It is celar that there has been a gap in generations in relatino to going to church and that generation X (born between 1966-1976) have been the most anti-church. To follow up on this I intend to do more research and a interview with one to develop the argument. If sucessful I think this will make a good spin on the film and give it a deeper meaning. |
